Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has named Herb Holtz, co-founder of Holtz & Reed LLP, a “2014 Lawyer of the Year.”
The feature section, set to appear in the January 19th edition, focuses on two victories in particular from 2014. In the first, Shervin v. Partners HealthCare System, Inc. et al., Holtz successfully defended both Partners and Massachusetts General Hospital’s physicians organization, MGPO, in a federal gender discrimination case, which Jack Connors, former Chairman of the Board for Partners HealthCare, described as a case people thought could not be won. In the second, Steward Health Care System LLC v. Boston Globe Media Partners LLC, Holtz persuaded a Superior Court judge to recognize a new exception to the privacy restrictions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), freeing Steward to respond a psychiatric patient’s allegations of mistreatment by Steward in a prospective Boston Globe news story.
Beyond these high-profile results, Holtz’s successes in 2014 included other major victories in employment, healthcare, and business litigation, as well as firm, steadfast guidance as outside general counsel to Holtz & Reed’s corporate clients. Whether representing healthcare institutions, life sciences companies, municipalities, or auction houses, Holtz’s tactful tenacity produced consistently big results for his clients in the year-that-was.
For these accomplishments, Holtz will be recognized at the 2014 Lawyers of the Year and the 2015 In-House Leaders event on Thursday, March 5th, at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, 606 Congress Street, Boston, MA 02210. For more information, please visit the Leaders in the Law website.
